NetPlay Logitech Media Server
Logitech Media setup instructions
-
First setup your virtual speakers (described in the Renderer setup)
-
Note that your virtual speakers can be shared between Squeeze, DLNA, and
Bonjour
-
Now determine if you will be running LMS on an external device or on NAB/NBX
-
Using the plug in apps requires that you setup a free mysqueezebox.com
account. Once this is setup, select the apps you want and then link
your local LMS server to this account. Using the
mysqueezebox account allows you to enter your account details for each app
in a single location that can be shared on all your devices.
- Spotify is an exception. It is a 3rd party app so your login
information is entered directly in the LMS settings page, advanced tab,
select Spotify in the drop down combo box.
- GoogleMusic is also setup from the LMS settings page.
-
Access the web control interface on your running LMS server (IP address :
port 9000)
-
Go through the setup wizard. Make sure you enter your mysqueezebox
account details.
-
You can also manually enter settings by selecting the settings icon.
iTunes integration
This will load all the songs and playlists from your iTunes library into the
Squeezebox libary. You do NOT need to have a PC running iTunes at all
times. The best way to integrate iTunes is to export your library to a NAS
drive. LMS on NBX will automatically scan the NAS drive to import your
music and playlists. When you run iTunes on your computer, it will sync
the library on the NAS to the cloud. As long as you open iTunes once in a
while, everything will stay in sync.
- Your iTunes media folder must be stored on a device which NBX has a
Network connection to.
- NAS drive: Make sure you setup a link to this drive in
the NBX web config page (else LMS cannot browse to it). NAS drives
appear at /mnt/samba/ in the directory browser.
- USB flash drive or hard drive connected to NBX: USB drives
will be automatically mounted and shared on the network. USB drives
appear as /media/usbX in the directory browser.
- PC hard drive: If this is used, then the PC must be on at all
times and shared. Otherwise NBX treats it like a NAS drive.
- If you need to move your iTunes library from a PC to a NAS/USB drive,
please refer to
these instructions. Another method that we believe is simplier is
- First sync your iTunes libary to iCloud
- Close iTunes, then reopen it while HOLDING the shift key
- iTunes will ask you if you want to create a NEW library
- Select yes, then create the new libary on the NAS drive share
- Finally, set your iTunes preferences to automatically download music
from iCloud
- You need to remove DRM from any DRM protected music using iTunes Match.
Please see
these instructions.
- The reload interval is in seconds, so we recommend setting to >100000
(~1day).
- IMPORTANT: The iTunes media folder entry must point to the ROOT
iTunes media folder (not the "Music" folder). If this setting is not
correct it will scan the library put you will not see any music in your
database.
The plugins page controls which apps are visible in attached control systems. Enable or disable these as required.
-
You can also enter other paths to scan for audio files. These will
either be NAS (/mnt/samba) or USB drives (/mnt/hd1).
-
Note that if you are going to use BitTorrent-Sync to sync your audio files
between different homes/installations, you will need to consolidate them all
to a single directory (the directory BitTorrent syncs). Access the
BitTorrent-sync config from the NBX config index.
- Instructions on setting up BitTorrent-Sync are
on this link.
- The default user name and password are both "admin". These do
not need to be changed and are only accessable on your lan.
- The default settings will use Upnp to open the port on your router
automatically. You just need to make sure Upnp is enabled on the
router. If you would rather do this manually, you can set a LISTEN
port and manually forward that port to BitTorrent.
- The folder you will share is your consolidated media folder on USB
or NAS.
- BitTorrent-Sync automatically runs in the background on NBX/NAB, so
once you setup the sync on 2 or more NBX/NABs there is nothing more to
manage. Any files added to the synced directory on either
installation will be synced to the others.
- You can also sync to your mobile devices (BitTorrent Sync app on
IOS/Android).
-
Once your library has finished scanning, select a speaker and play music.
You should see all the virtual speakers you published in step 1 as available
for playback. You can also setup control via a supported control
system or mobile apps.
